West High School is an educational institution that is governed by the Kern High School District, which serves more than 35,000 students and employs over 3,500 staff members. The school offers advanced placement, English Language Learners, and gifted and talented education programs. It conducts special education classes for students with special needs, as well as supports language courses in French and Spanish. The school also provides programs in physical education and fine and performing arts. West High School offers a range of sports activities that includes baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, softball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field. The school offers memberships in the National Honor Society and operates chess, forensics, drama and aviation clubs.
