Founded in 1944, Wayside Waifs is one of the largest nonprofit humane societies and pet shelters in Kansas City, Mo. It maintains a facility of more than 32,500 square feet and offers shelter to a variety of animals. The organization provides care services to dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, pigs and birds. Wayside Waifs also offers opportunities to adopt dogs of various breeds, including Labrador Retriever, German Shepherd, Collie, Pointer and Foxhound. In addition, it provides shelter to domestic cats and American rabbits. The organization offers training sessions that help individuals to manage the behavior of pets, as well as features a behavior helpline. Wayside Waifs additionally maintains a pet cemetery called Wayside Waifs Pet Memorial Park that contains graves of over 8,000 pets.
