Founded in 1892, the original store on 5th Avenue in downtown carried traditional hardware of that era, including washboards, wood stoves, ice boxes, sporting goods and Winchester firearms. Four generations later, San Diego Hardware is still owned and operated by members of the original founding family. Gradually, due to a growing reputation for unique and hard-to-find items, San Diego Hardware broke from the past of selling traditional "nuts and bolts" and began dealing exclusively in fine decorative hardware and plumbing.
