Dr. R. David Calvo earned his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Texas at Austin. He then completed his masters degree in Cancer Research at M. D. Anderson Hospital and Tumor Institute and the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in Houston. Upon completion of his masters, Dr. Calvo obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He completed his surgical internship and orthopedic surgery residency at Hermann Hospital.Dr. Calvo has completed fellowships in Sports Medicine: Arthroscopic & Reconstructive Knee Surgery at the world-famous Steadman Clinic in California, and Reconstructive Surgery of Degenerative Joints at Princess Margaret Rose Orthopedic Hospital in Edinburgh, Scotland. Before coming to the Lakeway/Austin area to develop Travis Orthopedics Sports and Spine at Lakeway Regional Medical Center, Dr. Calvo practiced in Sugar Land and the surrounding Houston metro area for over 28 years. Dr. Calvo is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has a special interest in sports injuries and artificial joints for the upper and lower extremities. He has served as physician and surgeon for thousands of patients including amateur, collegiate and professional athletes. He is an accomplished triathlete and sports enthusiast, competing for over 20 years. He and his wife, Dianne live in Austin/Lakeway area, have two adult sons and two grandchildren.
