Established in 1979, Origins is a nonprofit organization that works to promote multicultural democracy through various educational programs for school students and their teachers. It offers a variety of programs for children and adults through arts residencies. The organization provides Responsive Classroom, which is a program that includes social and academic learning opportunities for students in kindergarten through grade eight. Origins administers on-site consultation programs for teachers in the areas of community building, engaged learning and behavioral management. It conducts the Building Academic Communities Through the Arts (BACTA) workshop, which helps teachers to practice ideas for integrating storytelling, drawing, casual singing, movement and poetry activities. The organization also offers professional development programs. In addition, Origins operates an online store that sells books on a range of topics, such as child development, family communication and problem solving. The organization provides consulting services in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa and Oklahoma.
