O. Douglas Wilson, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who provides primary care for infants, children and young adults up to age 21. He has experience in child development, pediatric cardiology, and pediatric dermatology. As a professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Dr. Wilson instructs medical students, residents and fellows at UC San Diego School of Medicine. He received a special achievement award from the American Academy of Pediatrics for his commitment to teaching community continuity clinic to residents for over 25 years.Prior to joining UC San Diego Health, Dr. Wilson cared for children in the North Coastal San Diego area for over forty years. He also served in the United States Navy for over a decade, where he held positions such as a Commander in the Medical Corps and chief of pediatrics at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Annapolis, Md. He completed a residency in pediatrics and served as chief resident at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Oakland, Calif. He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, in Memphis, Tenn. He is board-certified in general pediatrics. Dr. Wilson is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, California Medical Association, and the San Diego County Medical Association. He is consistently recognized as a top doctor in San Diego Magazines Physicians of Exceptional Excellence" annual survey performed in collaboration with the San Diego County Medical Society. In 2015, Dr. Wilson received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UCSD Pediatric Residency Program for excellence in teaching. He was also the recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics' Special Achievement Award for commitment to teaching continuity to clinic residents for over 25 years.Outside of work, Dr. Wilson enjoys good cuisine and wine, spending time with his family and traveling.
