Naveen Gara, MBBS, is a hepatologist who cares for patients with hepatitis C, hepatitis B, fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune liver diseases, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and cirrhosis. He has expertise in performing endoscopic procedures to diagnose and treat digestive diseases. Dr. Garas research interests include viral hepatitis and noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis. His work on these and related topics has been featured in peer-reviewed journals such as Lancet, Gastroenterology, Clinical Gastroenterology & Hepatology and Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics. He has authored book chapters on small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and hepatitis B for Bariatric Surgery: Prevalance, Complications, and Impact on Quality of Life, and Schiffs Diseases of the Liver. Dr. Gara is on the editorial board for Medicine and currently serves as an ad-hoc reviewer for numerous publications, including the Annals of Internal Medicine, Hepatology and Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics.He has been invited to speak nationally on chronic hepatitis B, vaccination, non-invasive assessment of liver fibrosis, and advances in cancer staging by endoscopy. His achievements include the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases Abstract Travel Award, and their Young Investigator Award.Dr. Gara completed a fellowship in gastroenterology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and a fellowship in clinical hepatology at National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. He completed residency training at University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu. Following medical training, he worked at Mayo Clinic Health System in Minnesota for three years where he was an assistant professor at the Mayo College of Medicine & Physiology. Dr. Gara received his medical degree (MBBBS) from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, India.
