The MITRE Corporation is a nonprofit organization that is chartered to work in the public s interest. As a resource for the United States, the organization applies its experience in systems engineering, information technology, operational concepts and enterprise modernization to address its sponsors' critical needs. MITRE manages three federally funded research and development centers, which includes one for the Department of Defense, known as the DOD Command, Control, Communications and Intelligence FFRDC; one for the Federal Aviation Administration, known as the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development; and one for the Internal Revenue Service, known as the Center for Enterprise Modernization.
