John Malcolm founded Malcolm Drilling Company in 1962 after completion of his education at College of San Mateo. Today Malcolm Drilling is one of the largest and most successful foundation contractors in the world. The business has expanded to include all elements of excavation support system construction: hand dug shafts, drilled shafts, soldier piles, lagging, tie backs, soil nails, v-nails systems, underpinning, shotcrete, tiedowns and rock anchors. The company has rigs for limited access or low overhead, both mounted on tracks or portable. The latest additions to the fleet are the European made rotary top drive drill rigs that can go to depths of more than 200 feet. In addition, Malcolm has one of the largest fleets of oscillators and rotators in the United States. The company is headquartered in San Francisco.
