Operational since 1933, the Indiana State Police department is governed by the State of Indiana. It is involved in the protection of lives and properties of the public. The department operates through criminal investigation, operations support and human resources divisions. It maintains the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement division, which is responsible for enforcing state and federal regulations pertaining to commercial motor vehicles. The Indiana State Police department s communications division is engaged in the design and repair of equipment, such as portable radios, towers, pagers, sirens, faxes, and cellular and traditional telephones. Its fiscal division oversees the department's operating budget. The department addresses crimes and offenders, as well as defends federal and state constitutions.
