The Office of Thrift Supervision in New Orleans federally chartered Dryades Savings Bank on Sept. 9, 1994. The bank s board of directors is primarily composed of African-American community leaders and business owners. Throughout the 20th century, Dryades Savings and Loan had been a respected name in local finance, but fell victim to the same problems that closed many small savings and loans in the 1980s. Since that time, Dryades has become a thriving community financial institution. Its success is a result of its unwavering commitment to providing personal service, attention to the development of its core business lines and its ability to forge strong strategic community alliances. Headquartered in New Orleans it has four full-service branches in Orleans and Jefferson Parishes. The bank provides small business/commercial, consumer and mortgage lending. Yearly, it is listed among America's most successful African-American owned companies by Black Enterprise Magazine.
