Yuri Kim Kern, MD specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of pediatric eye conditions and adult strabismus. In addition to being a physician at Arbor Centers for EyeCare, she serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, an attending physician at Lurie Childrens Hospital of Chicago (Childrens Memorial Hospital) and the University of Illinois Eye Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.


Dr. Kern is a classically trained pianist, and although she considered pursuing a career in music, she embarked on a career in medicine. After completing her advanced training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. She joined Arbor Centers for EyeCare in 2000.


Dr. Kern has always had a strong interest and dedication to teaching future physicians and ophthalmologists. She has been an active faculty member at several academic institutions in the Chicago area since completing her training. She is also passionate about sharing her knowledge with other practicing physicians. She has lectured both locally and nationally as well as presented at various professional meetings. Dr. Kern is deeply committed to international eye care, having volunteered her time and expertise providing care to the underserved in India, Mexico and Africa. She finds her time spent on these eye missions some of the most rewarding experiences as a physician.


Dr. Kern sees patients at the Arbor Centers for EyeCares Chicago, Homewood and Orland Park locations. She supervises teaching clinics at the Rush Eye Center, Lurie Childrens Hospital of Chicago (Childrens Memorial Hospital) and the University of Illinois Eye Center.


In addition to caring for her patients, Dr. Kern enjoys running, music, traveling and spending time with her family.
