Dr. Murtaza Shakir went to medical school in Pakistan followed by general surgery training in New Mexico and Columbus, Ohio. He did his Surgical Oncology fellowship at University of Pittsburg Medical Center. He subsequently practiced in Louisiana, where he worked for three years as a General surgeon and a Surgical Oncologist. He moved to Houston to be closer to family and friends.

Dr. Shakir specializes in treating cancers of the Hepatobiliary tract and pancreas, as well as malignancies of the breast, stomach, colon, thyroid, parathyroid, melanomas and soft tissue sarcomas. He also performs laparoscopic and robotic surgery for a variety of general surgical problems including gallbladder and hernias. Dr. Shakir is board certified in General Surgery as well as Surgical Oncology. Away from work he enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids, is an avid traveler and enjoys playing squash and cricket.
