Colorado School of Energy StudiesEnergy Therapies explore the subtle factors that underlie health conditions. These systems look beneath surface, mechanistic explanations of symptoms to address deeper causes of healing and disease. Energy therapies are effective, gentle, safe encounters with generally unseen factors in physical, emotional and mental wellness.Energy Therapies generally offer a new paradigm for wellness, the idea that healing comes from within. This is in contrast to the prevailing mainstream belief that healing comes from outside, via medical authority, pharmaceutical correction or surgical procedure. The energy-based approach states that patients can benefit greatly from introspective self-awareness and gentle, natural remedies to facilitate and enhance the body's own inherent healing resources. External corrective strategies are still used, but with more caution, and emphasis is placed on empowering people to take more responsibility for their health conditions.Craniosacral and Polarity Therapies both originated with American osteopathic physicians in the mid-twentieth century, and were subsequently adopted outside the medical profession. Both propose that human health is driven by a subtle inner intelligence which can be palpated. Both employ hands-on methods to support this intelligence in its numerous expressions in the body.Craniosacral Therapy, indirectly derived from the work of William Sutherland, DO ( 1873-1954 ), grew out of modern osteopathic medicine. Craniosacral Therapy focuses on an energetic "ordering principle" which permeates the body and can be palpated as a subtle tidal movement emanating from the body's midline. The ordering principle provides a blueprint for health throughout all systems.
