Birthingway College of Midwifery is a nonprofit Midwifery Education Accreditation Council accredited school for midwives located in Portland, Ore. The school trains practitioners in a traditional Midwifery model of care to integrate new medical approaches. Midwifery education at Birthingway includes classroom and clinical components and takes a minimum of three years to complete. The first year focuses on normal aspects of pregnancy, birth and postpartum, including normal variations as well as some basic complications. The second year expands upon the first year's learning and includes microbiology and management of normal variations as well as emergency care for more complex situations. The third year covers a variety of professional topics and cultural issues.
