The Baltimore City Health Department is one of the oldest, continuously operating health departments in the United States. Founded in 1793, the department has worked to improve the health and well-being of the residents of Baltimore in partnerships with agencies, health care providers and community organizations. The department offers a variety of clinical, emergency, medical and food services for women, men, infants and people with disabilities. It provides treatment with mental and substance abuse disorders. In addition, the Baltimore City Health Department offers and oversees services for family planning, immunization, asthma, senior care, cancer screening, sexually transmitted infections, and maternal and infant health.
