Alcohol and Drug Council of Middle Tennessee, founded in 1966, is a behavioral health care center providing prevention, training and treatment services to people with chemical dependency and developmental disabilities. Its program for the deaf and hearing impaired teaches sign language and is designed to prevent the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. It has a special program for school children that provides full- and part-time alcohol and drug counseling, support groups, faculty and parent education, prevention presentations and crisis intervention programs. The council provides its services in more than 13 middle and high schools in Davidson and Sumner counties of middle Tennessee and has a 24-hour helpline service as well. It is affiliated with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and is located in Nashville, Tenn.
