The Adult Division provides a range of programs and services for adults. It offers general relief, energy assistance, adult protective, and state and local hospitalization services. The division also provides companion, nursing, long-term care, emergency and case management services for disabled people and senior citizens. In addition, the Adult Division offers the Medicaid and Food Stamps programs. It is a part of the Department of Social Services, which is governed by the County of Albemarle in Virginia. The department operates the Families and Children Division, which provides employment, adoption, family support, and child and foster care services. It also offers the Bright Stars and the Family Unification Programs.
